A Career Rooted in Purpose
Mae’s journey to becoming an architect began in 1996 during her first internship while studying architecture with a minor in fine arts. Over the past 25 years, her passion for designing tangible spaces has flourished, particularly in community-based projects and affordable housing. She has dedicated her career to creating meaningful connections with individuals from all walks of life, focusing on underserved neighborhoods and striving to address not just physical spaces but the intangible aspects of the human experience.
Her design philosophy reflects this deeply empathetic approach.
- Designing from the Outside: Grounding projects in the unique site context and the needs of the neighborhood.
- Designing from the Inside: Weaving the personal stories and experiences of individuals into every space.
- Creating Environments for Transformation: Believing that thoughtfully designed spaces can provide healing.
A Leader Committed to Mentorship and Growth
Mae’s leadership style is as intentional as her design approach. She emphasizes the importance of:
- Building trust within her team.
- Recognizing and celebrating the strengths of every individual.
- Creating a safe space where challenges are embraced as opportunities for growth and rewarding experiences.
Her commitment to mentorship is rooted in a belief that learning is a lifelong journey.
“Learning goes two ways,” Mae says. “I hope to create a place where apprentice and mentor grow together.”
