What Is CASp Certification and Why Does It Matter?

CASp certification is highly sought after in the California construction and real estate industry. Certified Access Specialists are trained experts in accessibility regulations and can evaluate  buildings for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other state and federal regulations. The CASp exams are rigorous, with a historic passing rate lower than bar exams for practicing law.

While CASp certification is often required for building officials, it is uncommon to find a certified CASp also practicing as a licensed architect.  As both CASp and architect, Steve can identify existing accessibility issues and design appropriate solutions.

Having a CASp-certified professional on your design team provides added assurance that your projects will meet the highest standards of accessibility. CASp-certified professionals also offer confidential evaluation reports that provide legal protections to building owners and developers in California, helping to mitigate the risk of accessibility related lawsuits.  Disclosure of CASp evaluation status is required in California commercial real estate transactions.

Steve Kuchenski’s Expertise Strengthened with CASp Certification

Steve’s expertise in building codes and ADA requirements is truly impressive. Throughout his career, he has guided more than 50 housing development projects to completion at ONYX, many in challenging settings. His new CASp certification further strengthens his skill set, positioning him to continue leading projects that not only meet but exceed the required accessibility standards.

Steve’s CASp certification will be invaluable in ensuring that ONYX Architects’ projects are accessible, inclusive, and compliant with all relevant regulations.
