ONYX Architects collaborated with MCR Hotels to renovate the historic seven-story Constance Hotel, an iconic building completed in 1926 on Colorado Boulevard.
This historic hotel’s rich detailing and prominent architecture underscore its role as a distinguished example of Pasadena’s tourism legacy.
The project involved a comprehensive removal of finishes, furniture, and casework, restoring original details and preparing spaces for future retail integration.
A key aspect of the renovation was the enclosure of the existing bar area, with meticulous attention given to matching new wall enclosures and flooring to the hotel’s original aesthetic.
ONYX also remodeled the NFPA 13 fire sprinkler system, fire alarm, and smoke detection systems, ensuring modernized safety throughout the property. Exterior elements—including windows, doors, roofing, and landscaping—were preserved to maintain the building’s historical integrity.
The renovation encompassed over 9,900 square feet across seven floors, with a special focus on revitalizing the courtyard and pool deck areas.
