Onyx designed two separate buildings around a shared, socially interactive courtyard containing fountains, benches and gardens to meet the community needs for this urban infill site in Rosemead.
The first building is a four-story structure that provides 72 one-bedroom apartments for seniors.
Each unit has an outdoor patio; each floor has a common lounge and the complex has a larger, community room and library on the main floor.
Residents at the housing complex are provided with gardening plots behind the community center.
A separate building houses a community center with a variety of multipurpose rooms and a daycare center.
A commercial kitchen and dining space is also part of the program. These rooms are used for adult education, special seminars, community and civic meetings, and family banquets.
